At the beginning of the season I had football analyst Roger Wolfson on the show to discuss how we thought that the Premier League season was going to play out. Now of course it is very rare that these sorts of conversations actually result in accurate predictions but that is no reason to stop doing it. I have to say however, that Roger’s prediction of a close race which could involve multiple teams was right on the money. It is only January and already we have talked up 5 or 6 teams as potentail contenders. The question is then, which way will it go now, knowing what we do. There are potential 6 teams in this, but let’s first focus on the top 4 as of right this moment.
Manchester United
Few thought that United would be in with a chance of the title this season, yet Ole has taken the team and really galvanized them to work to their strengths. This of course has been largely inspired by the brilliant Bruno Fernandes, and he has been the catalyst for the upsurge in performances from the Red Devils. Man United won’t win it, but this recent string of results will certainly increase their chances of a top 4 finish.
Leicester City
The first time that Leicester won the title was out of nowhere and that is what made it the miracle that it was. If they were to do it again however, then it will not be from nowhere but it would be a surprise. Brendan Rodgers has a great team here and possibly one of the league’s most balanced outfits. There is absolutely no reason why this team can’t keep pushing until the very end.
Liverpool
Most thought that Liverpool would once again run away with the title this season, but the players have began to realize that contrary to what they have achieved in the last 2 years, they are in fact humans. The Anfield record is still going and they have yet to be beaten there in the last 2 years, something which the team will be focussed on continuing. Liverpool have not been at their best but you do get a sense that it is still their’s to lose.
Manchester City
My money this season is on Pep Guardiola and Manchester City, because they have some absolutely amazing players and they have been counted out by so many, the perfect motivator. The games in hand which the team has had this season meant that the team has not been spoken of too much in the title talk, but a couple more wins and City will be in 1st or 2nd, right up where they belong. This is a team which is getting better and better and now that the leaky defense has been fixed, we expect the title challenge to be just around the corner from Pep’s men.
Which way do you see things going this season?
