ZW Radio Mix – Tour Manager Take Over
Friday, 31 August 2012

For this mix the big boss Sweeney takes over. Formerly the drummer for Engineers Sweeney now keeps the good ZW ship afloat on tour. A man of indescribable wit and energy. Big love.

ZW Radio – Guest Playlist from Hari Ashurst (Double Denim Records)
Monday, 25 June 2012

Double Denim released our first single Never Leave with a b-side of Let’s Move Back To Front back in November 2010 and they have since become firm friends. Hari Ashurst who makes up one half of the label gives us an intriguing mix of tunes below.

Enjoy.

P.s For his notes on each tune see below:

1. Junior Boys – Last Exit
The original is dialled to 2am, the Fennesz take is wide-awake at 5am.

2. Chrono Cross OST – Chronopolis

Never played the game but I really want to sample this. Really Trip-Hop and Epic!

3. The Visitors – No Under on the Ground

I put this on every mix, it’s amazing, and weirdly unheard. Anything with vocoder is good though.

4. Gay Cat Park – I Am A Vocoder
Which leads me on to Gay Cat Park (a teenage band name if every I heard one) and this, one of the best vocoder songs ever.

5. Elite Gymnastics – Here, In Heaven
A group I’ve listened to nonstop for the past year or so. Really potent music.

6. Stevie Nicks singing “Wild Heart” backstage
One of my favourite Stevie songs. Her voice sounds incredible even off-guard here. She looks amazing too.

7. Claire Hamill – Spring Awaken, Larkrise

Claire Hamill did a record made up solely made up of vocals. It’s a beautiful record, and really expressive, although sadly forgotten now.

8. AC Newman – Come Crash
AC Newman is a great songwriter and his first solo record is all gold. New Pornographers were/are a real hotbed of talent (Destroyer, Neko Case and AC.)

9. The Cardigans – Explode
Not sure if anyone else out there is canonising The Cardigans but I am.

10. The Juan Maclean – Happy House
Love this. When I played with them they had some insane equipment, including a spinning synth (I think). What a great song.

11. Enon – Natural Disasters
Juan Maclean’s drummer was also Enon’s drummer, which blew my mind more than I think he was prepared for when he told me. This song is an all-time favourite.
