>Last week we got back from our first trip to America which was a truly crazy experience. We had the pleasure of spending the last week out there on tour supporting Polica in the North East. Having previously only heard a couple of tracks online their live show completely blew us all away. Check out a live session of set highlight ‘Wandering Star’ below…
They’ll be over in London on 7th June playing CAMP Basement so all I can say is get your tickets right now.
I first met Sam aka Rain Dog whilst studying Art at Newcastle Uni. We hit it off immediately, and if you think his music is good he is just as good a painter.
When we new each other well he used to spend his time painting, building massive speaker systems with a friend and making crazy dubstep remixes of Bon Iver and Joanna Newsom songs, which I have on my computer and are bloody brilliant.
He has just released his ep ‘See Hear’ on netlabel Cut. A fairly new label whose quote
“Most netlabels have a stigma attached to them leading people to assume that because the music is free, it’s low quality. Cut has set out to debunk that myth.”
I can only believe because after hearing Rain Dogs stuff and checking out their catalogue, I had to have it all. Somehow they have managed to release some the best Chillwave, Ambstep, Dub, whatever you want to call it, Ambient techy electronic music I have heard for a long time.
Anyway check out Rain Dog, turn your sub up and walk on his watery glitchy tech beats into the reverberating setting sun. These songs are expertly crafted, from the ambient wash of layers, melodics and solid structures to the deep dub rhythms. This is a great EP. Perfect for a Sunday morning, in fact any morning, or really late night, which I suppose is the same thing.
A Zulu Winter remix………. I think it needs to happen, keep your ears to the ground.

>Everybody seems to be writing about records of year at the moment so ours for 2011 is Clean George IV’s ‘God Save the Clean’.
After taking some time out to study Classical music composition George has finally released his debut album, and its a cracker! Some of the best lyrics we’ve heard which sit upon well crafted pop gems, you need this in your life! Buy the record from Tenement Records
>We had the pleasure of supporting the lovely Braids on a few european dates recently and bejesus I hope it happens again. The live show is one of the best I’ve seen in awhile and the fact that they remain so unassuming and modest whilst being insanely talented just made me like them all the more.
Their debut ‘Native Speaker’ is best enjoyed on headphones but to get the full effect you need to see them live soon as.
We had the pleasure of supporting these guys on Monday eve and they’re bloody lovely. Great band.
Double Denim released their single ‘Two Islands’ last month which you can buy form here: http://doubledenimrecords.bigcartel.com/product/dd007-outfit-two-islands-vehicles
Make sure you buy ours as well though right?
>A friend sent me this rehearsal recording a few days back and you can now download it if you like. Quality of the recording is obviously a little shit (Sorry Frank) but listen to those guitars go. Also a little in love with the melody:
